BATON ROUGE, La. (April 30, 2024) — More than 100 Helix Legal Academy students will celebrate Law Day on May 1, 2024, participating in various activities in Baton Rouge.
Helix Legal students in grades 6 through 8 will be attending the Naturalization Ceremony at the Raising Cane’s River Center and participating in mock trials at the 19th Judicial Court and Baton Rouge City Court. Afterwards, they will also engage with local judges and attorneys in a question-and-answer session.
Law Day is a nationwide observance to celebrate the critical role of law in society and cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal system. Throughout the country and in Louisiana, the day will be marked by a variety of activities, including educational programs, legal seminars, and mock trials. This year’s theme is “Voices of Democracy.”
“We’re always excited to participate in Law Day,” said Jason O’Dell, principal of Helix Legal Academy. “It gives our students another opportunity to experience what the legal system looks like and gain a deeper understanding of our legal foundation.”
The activities will begin with the Naturalization Ceremony from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Following the ceremony, the students will split into groups and move to different courtroom sessions at the 19th Judicial Court and Baton Rouge City Court. The activities will end at noon.
